Key Features & Design
-
Massive Power Supply: The heart of the unit is a massive, in-house manufactured toroidal transformer. This is paired with 60,000µF of high-end British "slit-foil" capacitors, which can charge and discharge almost instantly to handle sudden musical peaks (like a drum hit or orchestral crescendo).
- Dual-Mono Layout: After the transformer, the circuit is laid out in a mono-block design. This means the left and right channels are physically and electrically isolated to improve stereo imaging and reduce crosstalk.
- Balanced Inputs: The MKII upgrade famously added XLR balanced inputs, which help reduce noise—especially in systems where the amplifier is located far from the preamplifier.
- Star Grounding: Rotel uses a copper grounding plate in a "star" pattern. This ensures that all grounding paths have the same potential, which significantly lowers the noise floor (hum/hiss).
