Speaker Cables

Athena is built as a full-range/treble ZERO-Tech cable. If bi-wiring your speakers, pair Athena with a dedicated AudioQuest BASS cable (such as BigFoot BASS) rather than running two ZERO cables in parallel.

Product Description

The AudioQuest Athena is a premium speaker cable within AudioQuest's updated Folk Hero Series. Positioned alongside models like the Lone Ranger (which replaced the older Robin Hood) and William Tell, the Athena acts as a high-end ZERO-Tech full-range speaker cable designed to deliver uncompressed current transfer and noise reduction.

Key Technical Features

  • ZERO-Tech Geometry: Eliminates the characteristic-impedance mismatch between the cable, amplifier, and speakers. By removing the electrostatic field between the high and low conductors, the cable allows unrestricted transient current delivery and linear RF noise dissipation.

  • No-Grain Copper (NGC) Conductors: The core innovation in the Athena cable is the use of No-Grain Copper. AudioQuest produces this by taking their high-purity Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) and coating it with molten copper prior to cooling. This process virtually eliminates microscopic grain boundaries in the metal, significantly reducing grain-structure distortion and harshness in signal transfer.
  • 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS): Features AudioQuest's active DBS pack, which polarizes the insulation to minimize dielectric energy storage and improve wide-bandwidth dissipation of background noise.
  • Permanent Molecular Optimization (PMO): Applies controlled stress to dielectric materials during production, permanently conditioning the insulation so it doesn't absorb or color audio energy.
  • Discrete Positive/Negative Housings: The positive and negative conductors run in separate, dedicated outer jackets, improving mechanical flexibility and isolating RF noise pathways.
