Key Technologies
The Thunder isn't just a thick copper wire; it uses several proprietary technologies to reduce electrical noise.
- ZERO-Tech (No Characteristic Impedance): This is the "secret sauce" of the Storm series. It’s designed to allow uncompressed current transfer, ensuring your amplifier isn't "choked" during loud, dynamic musical passages.
- 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS): You’ll notice a small black battery pack attached to the cable. This creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that polarizes the insulation, which AudioQuest claims reduces "dielectric noise" and improves detail.
- Ground-Noise Dissipation: It uses a patented system to drain radio-frequency (RF) noise away from the ground wire, preventing it from entering your audio components.
- Solid Copper Mix: It uses a blend of Long-Grain Copper (LGC) and Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC). Solid conductors are used instead of stranded ones to prevent "strand interaction," a common source of distortion.
