The AudioQuest ThunderBird is the entry point into the "Mythical Creatures" series, which represents the brand's high-end push into advanced noise-dissipation and signal-transfer technologies. It is positioned below the FireBird and Dragon models but shares the same core architectural philosophy.
Key Features & Materials
The ThunderBird is built with high-purity copper and active noise management:
- Conductors: It uses Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+). These are ultra-smooth, high-purity solid-core conductors that reduce "harshness" often caused by grain boundaries in lower-grade copper.
- 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS): You’ll notice a small black battery pack attached to the cable. This creates a constant electrostatic field that "polarizes" the insulation, reducing the storage and release of energy (dielectric absorption) for a cleaner background.
- Noise-Dissipation System (NDS): A multi-layer carbon-based system that traps and dissipates radio-frequency interference (RFI) before it reaches the amplifier.
