The Coffee USB uses a combination of advanced metallurgy and active shielding to minimize "digital" harshness and timing errors.
- 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS): This is the cable's most distinctive feature—a battery pack attached to the side. It creates a stable electrostatic field that polarizes the molecules of the insulation. This reduces energy storage in the dielectric, which AudioQuest claims leads to a "blacker" background and better dynamic contrast.
- 10% Silver Conductors: High-frequency digital signals travel almost exclusively on the surface of a conductor (the "skin effect"). By plating the copper core with a thick 10% layer of silver, the cable provides performance close to solid silver at a significantly lower price point.
- Directionality: All AudioQuest digital cables are "direction-controlled." The metal is drawn in a way that ensures noise is drained away from the DAC and toward the source/ground to minimize distortion.
