The S950 represents a modern shift for Grado, incorporating several "new generation" design elements that move away from their traditional fixed-cable designs.
- Brazilian Walnut Housing: Selected for its density and stability, this wood provides a relaxed, organic tone. Because it is natural wood, every pair has a unique grain pattern.
- 52mm "S" Dynamic Drivers: A version of the driver developed for the flagship HP100 SE. It features a paper composite cone and a high-flux magnetic circuit to minimize distortion.
- Detachable Cable System: A major departure for Grado, the S950 uses 4-pin mini-XLR connectors on the earcups, allowing users to swap cables easily.
- Enhanced Comfort: The headband features 50% more padding than previous Grado generations, and the unit weighs in at a relatively light 395 grams.
