Product Description
Hegel describes the D50 as a "pure" or "racehorse" DAC. Unlike many modern competitors, it excludes built-in streaming, preamplifier functions, and digital signal processing (DSP). By stripping away these extra circuits, Hegel aims to minimize electronic noise and interference, focusing entirely on the most accurate conversion possible.
-
Dual Power Supplies: It features two low-noise toroidal transformers—one dedicated to the digital processing and standby functions, and the other for the sensitive analog circuitry
- Triple Clocking System: To eliminate jitter, the D50 uses three separate master clocks: one for SPDIF inputs and two dedicated clocks for the USB input (optimized for 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rate families)
- DAC-Loop Function: This unique feature allows it to integrate seamlessly with Hegel integrated amplifiers (like the H400 or H600). It takes the digital signal from the amplifier, processes it through the D50's superior circuitry, and "loops" it back for amplification.
- Elevated DAC Board: The DAC chip itself is mounted on a separate, elevated board to physically isolate it from noise-generating components on the main motherboard
