Product Description

KEF's Ci (Custom Install) THX-certified range represents their high-end architectural lineup, designed to deliver the performance of their premium floorstanding speakers (like the R Series and Reference Series) while remaining hidden in walls or ceilings.

The "magic" of these speakers lies in KEF’s Uni-Q driver array, which places the tweeter in the center of the midrange/bass cone. This creates a "single point source" so everyone in the room hears the same tonal balance, regardless of where they sit.

1. The Performance Tiers

KEF offers three main levels of THX certification depending on your room size and performance needs:

Tier Certification Best For Typical Models
Dominus THX Certified Dominus Massive dedicated theaters (up to 6,500 cu. ft.) Ci5160REFM-THX
Ultra THX Certified Ultra Large home cinemas (up to 3,000 cu. ft.) Ci5160RLM, Ci3160RLM, Ci250RRM
Select THX Certified Select Medium rooms / Living rooms (up to 2,000 cu. ft.) Ci4100QL, Ci3120QLM

Key Technologies

  • MAT™ (Metamaterial Absorption Technology): Newer models (designated with an "M", like the Ci5160RLM) include this maze-like structure behind the tweeter. It absorbs 99% of unwanted sound waves from the back of the driver, resulting in much cleaner, distortion-free highs.

  • Aluminium Baffles: Unlike cheaper plastic in-wall speakers, the THX models use thick, precision-machined aluminium baffles. This prevents the wall from vibrating, ensuring you hear the speaker, not the drywall.
  • Cavity Radiation Control (CRC): Used in the high-end 3-way coaxial models (like the Ci250RRM), this helps eliminate the midrange "dip" often found in architectural speakers, making vocals sound more natural.
