Product description
The KEF Muo is a premium, high-fidelity portable Bluetooth speaker that leans heavily into the "luxury audio" category. While the original model gained fame years ago, KEF launched a new generation of the Muo in late 2025, which is currently the flagship portable in their lineup for 2026.
Designed by the visionary Ross Lovegrove, it’s essentially a miniature version of KEF’s $200,000 "Muon" floor-standing speakers.
What Makes it Unique?
-
Acoustic Engineering: Unlike most portable speakers that use "full-range" drivers (which can struggle with high-end clarity), the Muo uses a dedicated tweeter. This results in a much more detailed, crisp soundstage that mimics a proper Hi-Fi setup.
- Music Integrity Engine (MIE): It uses proprietary DSP (Digital Signal Processing) adapted from KEF’s high-end LS60 Wireless speakers to keep the sound balanced and distortion-free even at higher volumes.
- P-Flex Surround: The woofer uses a "pleated" design (P-Flex) which allows the driver to move more air without adding bulk, giving it deeper bass than its slim profile would suggest.
- USB-C DAC Mode: You can plug it directly into a laptop via USB-C to use it as a high-quality external desktop speaker (supporting up to 24-bit/48 kHz audio), bypassing the compression of Bluetooth entirely.
- True Wireless Stereo (TWS): You can pair two Muo speakers for a legitimate Left/Right stereo experience.
- Auracast Support: The 2026 model supports Bluetooth Auracast, allowing you to broadcast music to multiple compatible speakers simultaneously.
- Orientation Sensing: It can be used horizontally or vertically; the internal sensors automatically adjust the EQ to optimize the sound for that position.
