Product Description
The KEF Reference 8b is a high-end, audiophile-grade subwoofer designed to match the uncompromising standards of KEF’s flagship "The Reference" series. It is less about "shaking the floor" with raw volume and more about providing surgical precision, low distortion, and seamless integration with high-fidelity speakers.
Key Features & Technology
The 8b is defined by its "force-cancelling" architecture, a signature KEF design found in their most expensive speakers like the Blade.
- Force-Cancelling Drivers: It features twin 9-inch (225mm) drivers mounted back-to-back. Because they fire in opposite directions, the reactive forces of the magnets cancel each other out. This results in a cabinet that stays inert and vibration-free, even at high volumes.
- Dual Amplification: Unlike most subs that use one amp for one or two drivers, the 8b contains two 500W Class D amplifiers (1,000W total), each dedicated to driving one of the 9-inch woofers independently for maximum control.
- Acoustically Inert Cabinet: The enclosure is heavily braced and finished in a deep Piano Black. It is a sealed box design, which typically provides "faster," tighter bass response compared to ported subwoofers.
- Advanced DSP: A dedicated Digital Signal Processing (DSP) section allows for fine-tuning based on room placement (Corner, Wall, or Cabinet modes).
