Construction & Design
Unlike standard paper sleeves, which can shed dust or cause "micro-scratches" (hairlines) on your vinyl, MoFi sleeves use a sophisticated three-ply design:
- High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE): The record touches two layers of archival-grade HDPE. It is non-abrasive, so the record slides in and out "like butter."
- Paper Core: A middle layer of acid-free paper is sandwiched between the HDPE sheets. This gives the sleeve enough stiffness to stay upright and not bunch up when you slide it back into the cardboard jacket.
- Translucent Front: The front is a single layer of HDPE, allowing you to see the record label and any colored vinyl without taking it out.
Key Benefits
-
Anti-Static: The most famous feature. These sleeves are treated to prevent static build-up, which is the main culprit for attracting dust and causing "pops" during playback.
- Archival Quality: They are chemically inert and acid-free. They won't "off-gas" or leave a cloudy residue (often called "bag rash") on your vinyl over decades of storage.
- No Paper Dust: Standard paper sleeves break down over time, leaving white fibers in the grooves. These don't.
