Informations
Product Description
The Rega Mercury is Rega's flagship reference-grade preamplifier, designed to pair directly with their matching Solis stereo power amplifier. It represents the upper tier of Rega’s two-channel electronics, combining a fully discrete line stage with an integrated high-performance DAC and a dedicated headphone amplifier.
Core Architecture & Design Philosophy
-
Discrete Audio Circuitry: The core analogue audio path uses fully discrete, symmetrical DC-coupled circuitry designed to minimize noise and phase distortion. It employs elevated power supply voltages (~60% higher than typical preamps) to ensure generous dynamic headroom.
- Volume Control: Features an active volume control topology built around the Alps Blue Velvet RK27 pot, adapted with discrete driver stages for precise channel tracking and transparency.
- Connection Preference: While the unit includes balanced XLR inputs and outputs, Rega intentionally recommends using the unbalanced RCA connections for peak performance. The internal core is natively unbalanced, meaning the XLR ports utilize extra balancing circuits.
- No Built-In Phono Stage: Unusually for Rega, the Mercury is strictly a line-level preamp. It is intended to be fed by high-end standalone phono stages, such as the flagship Rega Aura MC.
