Core Features & Engineering
The Planar 6 is built on the philosophy that "mass absorbs energy—and lost energy equals lost music." To combat this, Rega uses ultra-lightweight materials to keep the deck rigid but nearly weightless.
- Tancast 8 Plinth: The heart of the P6 is its ultra-lightweight polyurethane foam core plinth (originally developed for the aerospace industry). It is sandwiched between a thin, rigid High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) skin.
- Dual-Layer Glass Platter: A "flywheel" effect platter made of two different layers of float glass. The extra mass is concentrated on the outer rim to improve speed consistency without adding unnecessary weight to the bearing.
- Machined Aluminum Sub-Platter: Unlike the plastic sub-platters on lower models, the P6 uses a single-piece machined aluminum hub for better precision and durability.
- RB330 Tonearm: A hand-assembled tonearm featuring a high-precision bearing housing and a stainless steel balance weight.
The Neo MK2 Power Supply
A major highlight of the Planar 6 is that it comes standard with the Neo MK2 PSU. This is a separate outboard power supply that provides:
- Electronic Speed Change: You can switch between 33 and 45 RPM at the touch of a button (no need to move the belt manually).
- Fine Speed Adjustment: Allows you to calibrate the speed perfectly using a digital signal processing (DSP) generator.
- Vibration Control: The motor is hand-tuned to its specific Neo PSU to minimize motor vibration.
