The HD800S is famous for its holographic soundstage. Unlike most headphones that feel like the music is inside your head, these create a massive, speaker-like sense of space.
- Imaging: The ability to pinpoint the exact location of an instrument or a footstep (in gaming) is class-leading.
- The "S" Difference: The original HD 800 had a notorious 6kHz treble peak that many found "piercing." The "S" model introduced an absorber technology (borrowed from the IE 800 IEMs) to smooth out that peak and slightly boost the low-end warmth.
- Bass: While more present than the original, the bass is still "audiophile-neutral." It is tight, fast, and textured, but it won’t satisfy "bassheads" looking for physical rumble.
- Treble: Exceptionally detailed. You will hear breathing, fingers sliding on guitar strings, and room reverb that you likely missed on other gear.
